Riches is a family drama on ITV (and Prime) that I almost missed.
It is based around the fallout around the legacy of the multi-million pound Black hair and beauty business - Flair and Glory, following the death of the CEO and family patriarch.
Had it not been for the fact that an actor friend of mine had a part in this drama, it could have come and gone without me knowing anything about it at all. (Thanks to Tayo Aluko for the information.)
As it is, I finished the 6 x 45m episodes in two sittings, sacrificing sleep to stay in the world of the fragmented Richards family based mainly in London, UK and New York, US.
If you want secrets and lies, greed and jealousy all linked to big business, this drama is for you. If you liked Succession, you will probably like this series.
It’s been a long time since I’ve seen a drama with a Global Majority cast that wasn’t mainly focused on discrimination and racial issues.
The writer, Abby Ajayi, said this series is her “love letter to London”, and it was her aim to bring real moments of Black British life to the screen. Ajayi was also a screenwriter on the hit series, How To Get Away With Murder.
I hope you enjoy Riches, I really did.

Until next time … I’ll keep musing.

Riches - An Explosive Family Drama!
From the title, I thought our family came into a boat load of money, and I was ready to sit on the sidelines of the drama and wait until I got my share so I could bathe in dollar bills 🤣
Well, now I’m just going to have to find a way to watch this show.
